Bev Muendel-AtherstoneMini Bio

Canadian Citizen. Born in the U.S. and have lived in Southern Alberta for over 30 years (11 years in Stirling, 2 in Lethbridge, 18 in County of Lethbridge).

Family Life:
Married 43 years to Hans-Henning Mündel; 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren.

Education:
Ph.D. 1989 University of Alberta.  Educational/School Psychology.

Lived and worked internationally:
Canada, U.S, India, Kenya, Germany, Ethiopia and Pakistan.

Professional Experience (often concurrently over more than 30 years):

  • Twelve years in counselling; most in private practice;
  • Thirteen years training teachers in the Faculty of Education, The University of Lethbridge at undergraduate and graduate level;
  • Sixteen years as School Psychologist (contract) with the Palliser Regional School District.
  • Three years supervising psychologists in southern Alberta school districts preparing for professional certification;

Political Involvement:

  • From 1991 to present:  President of Lethbridge Federal NDP; Vice President of Lethbridge West.
  • Publicity Chair for Lethbridge Federal NDP campaigns since 2001.

Community Service:

  • 2010-11-Acting Chair "Friends of Medicare" advocating to keep our hospital Cytology Lab and our long term care beds and ensure Public Health Care.
  • 2003-present: Member Rotary Club of Lethbridge East; President 2004-5.
  • 1978 to 2011: Moderator, speaker and board member of Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA).
  • 2005-2009 Board member Sunset Acres Water Co-op (The Board organized the acquisition and community build of a Blue Imp playground.)
